A children’s enrichment course is one where a child can learn about things that will help to enrich the ability to see the reality of the world around them, as well as to learn about things other than the basic three R’s (Reading, wRiting, and aRithmatic). A children’s enrichment course can be held in pre-school, daycare, a school, religious facility with a day school, or Sunday school, as well as in private dance and music lessons and athletic activities. Strange as it may seem, if the child or children have grandparents, their lives will be enriched by learning life experiences from the elderly.
There are some schools that offer a children’s enrichment course that includes parents where the parents participate in aiding the teacher with class activities. This includes a parent education program that is geared to the age of the child. The course encourages the development of a pre-school child’s creativity with scheduled and well monitored art classes. Some colleges offer science classes for children aged 5-12 wherein, the children learn by doing conducted science experiments. Classes like these are offered to show children that learning should not be tedious and boring, it should be fun instead.
A good and healthy children’s enrichment course should revolve around the child’s learning skill level, the classes should be small to keep the child’s attention from straying, materials used should be the sort that will encourage the child to want to learn more every day; and the program should be one that encourages fun in learning. Life is a learning experience and a child should be encouraged to learn something new each day. This should be the goal of every children enrichment course. For the older child, an enrichment course should be a supplement to its formal school education and a basic preparation for adulthood.
Research that was done on children’s activities proved that our children are sedentary and lack both physical and mental stimulation. A children’s enrichment course started at an early age can change that sedentary pattern into one that is more healthfully energetic. A child with a sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy eating habits has a future of obesity. Obesity leads to a non-energetic child with no desire to look toward success in the future.
In summary, see that your child is enrolled in a children’s enrichment course at an early age to learn arts and crafts and socialization; the older child should participate in science projects and other interesting projects to supplement its formal education; participate in parent-child enrichment courses; encourage your child or children to learn something new every day; see that your child takes part in energetic programs and is not sedentary; and last but not least, teach your child about good healthy and nutritious eating habits. These are basic common sense rules, if taught and encouraged, that will show a child that learning, whether formal or informal, can be lots of fun.
