It is the holiday season once again and what are the kids doing in front of the television sets? Playing virtual computer games and eating unhealthy junk foods? Shouldn’t kids be playing outside with their friends and creating memories of their childhood? Let the kids be enrolled in a kids holiday program during the holiday break from school so that they can have fun and still be learning many new things. There are various holiday programs available in your locality. Yet there are some gnawing questions about a kid’s holiday program.
Are these programs free? – There may be programs in your church, local NGO (non-government organization), or local community non-profit organization that are free. However, most kids holiday programs are not. So please inquire about the different tuitions or registration fees set forth by the institutions providing the programs and ask the program head what it covers.
What are the basic components in a kid’s holiday program? – Kids participating in a holiday program are usually with those who are in their primary school age. That is the time when they meet new and old friends, socialize through games with values or moral lessons, create arts and crafts, and participate in mini-theatrics, plays, or puppet activities organized by the program heads. Basically, the kid’s holiday program sets out to de-stress the kids from school work and renew their joys for learning and fun. There is a lot of learning involved in kid’s holiday programs and parents will also enjoy seeing their kids develop into mature young people. Some holiday programs also incorporate educational fun learning such as science, math, and reading. There are also prizes that are being given away and certificates of completion after finishing the program.
Is the kid’s holiday program safe for my child to attend? – Most centers providing a holiday program for kids have a waiver that you have to sign in and they also have a stand-by medical unit. Also, there are instructors in the program that are already trained with basic first aid administration as well as CPR. Upon registration, parents are asked who to contact if in case there are emergencies. The kids will also be fully supervised by adult instructors and program heads during the daily activities and that the materials and equipment used during the program are relatively safe to use and handle. If parents need to check with their kids during the course of the program, they should discuss that with the program heads.
Will my child enjoy this kids holiday program? – Let the child experience the program and let them tell you. If your child did not seem to like the experience of a particular program, there are still other programs that you could let him or her try. Let the child choose which program he or she wants to participate in.
